I love to bake! It was never something I did as a child, but my mom would make a batch of chocolate chip cookies just about every day of my childhood. She would have a fresh batch ready every day after school and we got to enjoy a warm cookie and a cold glass of milk for a snack. So, I definitely have a warm, fuzzy feeling when it comes to baking something 🙂
I baked with my children all the time when they were younger. We would bake all year long together, but it felt extra special during the holidays to be in the kitchen together talking and making a dessert for our many family holiday parties or just something to enjoy on a random Tuesday.
As the kids got older, I would put them in charge of deciding what we would bring for dessert to our holiday family parties and they would bake it themselves. Those first times of them baking was always interesting, but it would aways turn out well. So much learning and togetherness happening all at once. 🙂
The holiday season is the perfect time to start a tradition with your family. This baking thing became one of ours. Your tradition doesn’t have to be baking, you can choose something else, but I thought it was the perfect mix of teaching my children a skill and having family time that we could count on every year.
This year, I get to add my grandson to the mix! I chose a day that he will come spend at my house all day and we will bake cookies, watch a movie and just spend some good, quality time together. And it will be something that his sister and cousins that come along will get to share with him as the years go on. I can’t wait!

So, if you want to start a tradition of your own, or you just want to have some yummy ideas for dessert for your family parties, I have put together a list of recipes that I have baked with my kids. My hope is that you will have your children (or even your grandchildren if you’re in that season, like me!) together in the kitchen, make some memories and bake something for that holiday party or to just start a tradition with them.
These recipes are easy and plenty of the steps can done by young children, ask me how I know 😉
I also want to state that, while it’s important to me to be mindful of the things that my family eats, processed foods, dyes etc., some of these recipes don’t have the “best” ingredients. There are some years that I seek out alternative ingredients that may be a better option and there are some years where I just make the recipe the way it says and not stress about it. I have spent many, many years hardly eating because “everything was bad for me!” and I don’t want to pass that onto my children. So, well yes, being mindful of what we consume is important, so is your mental and physical health. Find YOUR balance, whatever that looks like for you 🙂
I made all the recipes so that you could print them out and add them to your collection 🙂
So, enjoy the recipes, enjoy the time baking with your babies and have a wonderful holiday season ❤️
